Advent 2020

Perhaps this year more than any other, we are waiting with eager anticipation for our world to be made whole. We are waiting for healing, waiting for resolution, waiting for peace. Butwe are a people who ultimately wait with hope that God has kept God’s promises, and we will celebrate the birth of Emmanuel this year; God is with us! Although our world is so different, this truth remains!

We invite you to journey with us to Bethlehem through the following NRUMC events this Advent Season. You may also choose to participate in our annual Angel Tree that provides gifts to children in need!

Incarnation – Zoom Advent Study (Tues., 10:00 a.m. & 6:30 p.m., 11/24 – 12/22)

In this new Adam Hamilton study, we will explore the timeless names of Jesus and his significance for us: Lord, Messiah, Savior, Emmanuel, Light of the World, and Word made Flesh. How important it is, now more than ever, to draw near to the God who draws near to us!

The Well Sunday School class will also be using this study during Advent; email Michael Laird at for more information!

Angel Tree | December | online

We are excited to announce the launch of the Virtual Angel Tree program! Angel Tree is a Prison Fellowship program that serves incarcerated parents by giving them a pathway to restore and strengthen relationships with their children and families.  NRUMC is partnering with Prison Fellowship to serve the children this Christmas season through this new and flexible option for ministry. This year’s format will provide Angel Tree Tags virtually for those who wish to sponsor a child.
To ensure that you are able to access the website and effectively navigate and sponsor children, please note NRUMC’s URL and access code below. This new virtual option allows our church community to sponsor a child of a prisoner for $22 to receive a Christmas package on behalf of their incarcerated loved one. There is also an option to sponsor siblings of the child for $22/sibling, and to sponsor the caregiver for $22 as well, if desired.  The Christmas package will include: a gift card to Walmart (based on selected sponsorship level), the prisoner parent’s message, a Gospel presentation, and an opportunity to request a free Adventure Bible.
NRUMC’s Access Code: NDWVZ
Thank you for partnering in this ministry of transformation. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact Valerie Holt Leary at, or 919-302-0661.

Advent Organ Escape | TBA

Take a breath in the midst of the Advent and Christmas chaos to join us for this pre-recorded retreat into the joy of seasonal music. NRUMC Organist Dr. Candace Bailey will lead us through a diverse collection of contemplative and celebratory music! It will be emailed out and available on the NRUMC Vimeo page beginning soon.

Blue Christmas Service | Dec. 17 | 7:00 p.m. via Zoom

The Christmas and Advent seasons are not always joyful, especially for those of us who are grieving the loss of a loved one or are navigating a difficult time. This virtual service of prayers, readings, and music provides the comfort of the Advent promise that God is near. If you are not comfortable with Zoom, there will be an option to call into the service with your phone.

Christmas Eve Living Nativity | 12/24 | 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Come listen to the Nativity story, seeing the scenes played out at a distance in North Raleigh’s first drive-thru living Nativity! To sign up for a time slot, click here.

As you pull into the parking lot, you’ll be invited to listen to the Christmas story read and music played by members of our congregation. While driving through, you will see scenes along the way that illustrate this beautiful story and help us to remember, together, the birth of our Savior and the hope God has given us.

Christmas Eve Online | Dec. 24

Celebrate with tidings of comfort and joy in the good news that Christ is Born! This service will include special carols, candlelight, and the Christmas story. It will be available on the NRUMC Vimeo page and on our website.

Virtual services will continued to be offered each Sunday during Advent on the NRUMC Vimeo page and on our website. During Advent, there will be two online worship services available. Our blended, traditional worship as well as a new online service, Discover will also be availaibe. Learn more about the new service at!
