Disaster Response in Ocracoke
The following is a letter sent by group leader Gordon Bell to our Disaster Response Team:
Good morning volunteers!
We had a very successful trip to Ocracoke. Our teams treated 19 homes for mold and installed 2,800 sq. ft of subfloor in 18 rooms of the Ocracoke Health clinic. Special thanks go to Julie Barnes and her team of Donna Wells and Kristen Lancaster for making every night a feast! Not only did they keep us well nourished but they were valuable members of the mold-remediation team. We won’t go on another trip without them!! We had 5 star accommodations thanks to a family in Washington, NC who provided us with their waterfront cottage overlooking the Pamlico Sound.
This was a trip of teamwork and wonderful fellowship! We had 3 individuals who joined our team from across our state and one that came all the way from San Diego! The Baptists in Mission were there serving lunch and dinner and Samaritan’s Purse was leaving the island as we arrived. UMCOR is taking over now and will be supplying the materials and labor to rebuild the island. Ocracoke Village was hit very hard and will need help for at least the next 2 years.
I’d like to thank the following volunteers for their hard work and dedication:
Dave and Donna Wells
Mike and Julie Barnes
Thank you all for your continued dedication in serving Christ,
Don't miss a thing!
