Thank you for your ministry to North Raleigh United Methodist Church through your welcoming spirit. Continued development in our ministries is essential to fulfilling our call to “offer a safe and caring environment for anyone searching to be spiritually fulfilled and accepted.”
Earlier in 2018, Pastor Duke Lackey created a committee to assess NRUMC’s level of preparedness and to develop a plan to improve the ability to react effectively when and if we are confronted by unexpected incidents. While finding the perfect plan is impossible, the committee has analyzed our preparedness and has developed a phased plan to increase awareness and preparation to respond when required.
Overall preparedness focuses on issues of health, child, youth & adult safety, fire, weather, and multiple types of improper behavior and potential intruders. Since we are a church community, we must always endeavor to become a more welcoming congregation and maintain an open environment. We must assure that any plan balances those tenets with safety and security.
There are fire alarms at all exits, multiple fire extinguishers in all buildings, first aid kits, Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) and emergency phones in each building, detailed safe sanctuary guidelines to protect children and youth, planned posted evacuation routes for each classroom, documented emergency procedures, and a planned schedule of training sessions to provide detail on critical tasks.
During Sunday services, we will limit the number of open ingress doors and the hours during which they will be open. All doors on the campus will continue to be available for egress from the buildings. The doors indicated below will be open as indicated. All other doors will be locked.
