Christmas Cantata
Sunday December 15th
Celebrate Christmas with NRUMC's Cantata
Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Vaughan Williams
Dec. 15th 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Services
This year, the NRUMC Chancel Choir will be joined by orchestra and guest baritone soloist, Chris Short, for Ralph Vaughan Williams’s spectacular arrangement of well-loved Christmas tunes and carols. The music-led service will also feature grand hymn orchestrations, handbells, and works by composers such as Marques Garrett and Kyle Pederson. We hope you will join us!
During the holiday season, it can be hard to feel joy when faced with grief, loss, or challenging times. Our Blue Christmas Service is a gentle, quiet space for reflection and comfort—a place where we can gather to find solace and hope, even in the midst of our struggles.
The service begins with a meaningful act of remembrance. As you enter, you’ll receive a blue carnation, which you’re invited to place among simple, bare branches at the front of the sanctuary. This simple act allows us to acknowledge those we’ve lost or the burdens we carry. Each flower placed among the branches represents prayers of love, grief, or hope, and each of us can light a small candle as a reminder of God’s presence with us in our darkest times.
Through scripture, music, and prayer, we’ll create a space for all who need comfort and healing this season. Come as you are, bring whatever you carry, and know that this is a safe place to gather, grieve, and find peace.
